Medication Research Partnership (MRP)

Overview

Testing "Systems Change Strategies" to increase access to medication for patients dependent on opioids or alcohol

This 22-month long project tests strategies to facilitate medication-assisted treatment and enhance integration of medical care and addiction treatment within a commercial health plan.

Participating treatment centers will be interviewed periodically to examine barriers, challenges, and change strategies to implementing medication-assisted treatment.

The interventions build on our experience with Advancing Recovery making system changes that supported implementation of evidence-based practices.

The proposal has three specific aims:

  1. Facilitate adoption of medications by comparing 12 treatment centers utilizing Advancing Recovery with 12 matched comparison sites
  2. Assess impacts on healthcare utilization and expenditures
  3. Conduct qualitative interviews and document implementation barriers and change strategies
