CHESS receives 4.2 million NIH grant to study impact of Elder Tree on older adults with chronic conditions

CHESS researcher Ryan Westergaard, MD, PhD, MPH, assistant professor, Infectious Disease, has been awarded nearly $2.3 million over five years by the National Institutes of Health - National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIH-NIDA) for a proposal entitled, "Optimizing HIV care for patients with substance use disorders using predictive analytics in a mobile health application (A-CHESS)".

The study found that not only did the A-CHESS app users report fewer risky drinking days, but also that smartphone app users had a higher likelihood of consistent abstinence from alcohol.
