Logistics and Set-up for a Successful Nominal Group Discussion
- The meeting room should be private to allow for open, honest and uninterrupted discussion. The meeting will take about two hours, so a spacious, well-ventilated room is best.
- A conference table in the meeting room is ideal so that participants and the facilitator can sit facing each other as equals and everyone has a surface to write on. Any observers should sit at the back of the room and be as unobtrusive as possible.
- Have a flip chart (with at least 15 sheets), markers and masking tape for the facilitator, and enough wall space for displaying at least 12 chart sheets by the end of the session.
- Have paper and pens laid out around the table for each participant.
- Provide name tags or tents so everyone can address each other by first name.
- It is also a good idea to provide some snacks and beverages for participants.
