CSAT Grantee Learning Collaboratives

The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) provides grants to a range of population-specific treatment providers. These discretionary grants aim to help grantees improve access to and retention in treatment by focusing on the unique needs of the populations they serve.

The CSAT Grantee NIATx Learning Collaboratives include::

Assertive Adolescent Family Treatment

Four sites are participating in NIATx Learning Collaborative to improve recruitment and retention of adolescents in treatment. The sites received training in the NIATx model in March 2010. NIATx coaches engage the sites in monthly calls and will conduct site visits to all grantees. The collaborative is expected to close in December 2010 at the Joint Meeting on Adolescent Treatment Effectiveness (JMATE) meeting.

Adult Treatment Drug Courts

Ten sites are involved in a NIATx Learning Collaborative to improve access and transitions for offenders eligible for drug court diversion programs. An Orientation Webinar was held January 22, 2010 and a Kick-Off Meeting was held March 3–4 at the SAMHSA office in Rockville, Maryland. Coaches engage the sites in monthly calls and have conducted a visit to each site. This collaborative is expected to close in January 2011.

Pregnant and Postpartum Women and Residential Treatment for Women and their Children (PPW/RWC)

Sixteen sites are involved in a NIATx Learning Collaborative to improve retention and continuing care for pregnant and postpartum women in residential treatment. This collaborative will promote promising practices to increasing involvement of family members, particularly children older than 3 years of age. Sites participated in an orientation webinar in April 2009 and a kick-off meeting was held June 2009 concurrent with first pilot capstone meeting. Coaches engage the sites in monthly calls and will conduct site visits to sites needing on-site consultation. A completion conference is anticipated for winter 2011.

Recovery Community Services Program:

3 grantees have completed their first change projects with great success. These projects include increasing the number of active volunteers, increasing the number of monthly GPRA baseline interviews, increasing the number of admissions, and improving the amount of time between interview and coach assignment. A kick-off webinar was held on April 15, 2009. Monthly coach calls (plus as needed) were conducted as well as site visits to all sites. An intermediate meeting was help with ROSC in November 2009. A close-out occurred January 31, 2010.

Targeted Capacity Expansion Program for Substance Abuse Treatment and HIV/AIDS Services (TCE/HIV)

Twenty sites are participating in a NIATx Learning Collaborative to improve access and retention in addiction treatment for patients with HIV/AIDS. The sites received an introduction to the NIATx model at a kick-off meeting on February 3, 2010. Coaches engage the sites in monthly calls and will conduct site visits to all grantees. The Learning Collaborative will close with a conference in fall/winter 2010.

NIATx Support, Training, and Resource (STAR) Program

The NIATx Support, Training, and Resource (STAR) Program provides a NIATx Learning Collaborative and coaching to CSAT-funded discretionary grantees.
