Strategies to Sustain Use of A-CHESS: A Mobile Intervention for Individuals with Alcohol Use Disorders

Mobile apps like Addiction-CHESS (A-CHESS) show promise for helping people with a substance use disorder maintain their recovery. But treatment providers will need to find ways to keep staff and patients engaged in ongoing use of a recovery app.  

A research team at the Center for Health Enhancement Systems Studies examined the barriers and facilitators to sustained use of A-CHESS in several treatment organizations. The study found that leadership support, staff and client engagement, and establishing expectations for clients using A-CHESS while in treatment all contributed to sustained use of the app.
