For Ron Gowins, Substance Use Disorders Services Team Leader at Denver Health, Behavioral Health Services, attending the NIATx Change Leader Academy in April 2010 was truly a valuable experience. The change project that Ron led in order to earn his NIATx Change Leader certification increased admissions of patients with HIV in need of substance abuse treatment.

The increased revenue the project generated enabled the department to hire an extra counselor to care for the additional clients. (Read related story.)

Signal Behavioral Health recognized the Behavioral Health Services change team’s accomplishment by awarding them the $5000 Signal Quality Improvement of the Year Award.

Congratulations to the Denver BHS team of Sharon Connolly, Ron Gowins, John Lundin-Martinez, Rod Rushing, and Charles Schuman, M.D.
