Wisconsin Electronic Behavioral Health Records Collaborative

Background

Behavioral health providers share many common goals. Key areas targeted by the field include

  • appeasing regulations
  • optimizing resources
  • lowering costs
  • improving outcomes

On average, providers struggle to realize these organizational goals per limited capital, knowledge, and staff. While the implementation of electronic health record (EHR) technology promises to help within these areas, why does the field remain slow to adopt?

Purpose

NIATx spent the last year investigating this question with a learning collaborative of behavioral health providers from across Wisconsin.

Our goal: identify best leadership strategies and barriers to effective and efficient electronic health records implementation.

Areas of research included

  • finance
  • organizational strategy
  • federal policy
  • readiness
  • product functionality
  • workflow
  • human factors
