NIATx Partnering with New Payers

It’s a new year and you need a new payer!

NIATx Partnering with New Payers is designed to teach substance abuse treatment organizations the ABCs of partnering with private sector payers, including self insurers, employee assistance programs, managed care companies, and insurance companies.

About NIATx Partnering with New Payers

This initiative will focus on the ABCs of partnering with new payers:

  • Attracting new payers using sales and marketing strategies
  • Becoming a provider that payers want to work with
  • Cash flow and compliance

Through monthly webinars, participants will learn how to:

  • Understand the payer’s perspective
  • Demonstrate value
  • Execute a successful sales cycle
  • Create an action plan for partnering with new payers and increasing revenue

How it Works

Up to 25 organizations will be selected to participate through an application process. The selected organizations will join monthly technical assistance webinars (February through October 2012) led by expert faculty:

  • Patrick Gauthier, Director, Advocates for Human Potential (AHP)
  • Chuck West, Program Director, Sales, Sales Management, and Advanced Management programs for Wisconsin School of Business Executive Education.

In the third month of the initiative, all participants will be invited to submit an action plan for identifying value, selecting targets and making effective sales calls. Based on a review of the submitted plans, up to ten organizations will receive additional technical assistance to achieve their action plan goals.

Who should apply?

NIATx Partnering with New Payers is specifically for substance abuse treatment organizations that meet the following criteria:

  • Already bill third-party payers
  • Want to diversify their payer mix and develop stronger marketing skills
  • Have a documented billing process
  • Have a collection denial rate of less than 20%

Note: Organizations participating in the NIATx Fee-for-Service Project Cohort II are not eligible to apply.
